Page 1 of 5 Dear Friends, The Manse February 2009Our land is in the grip of a terrible financial crisis and something of this is in the news every day. But our land is also in the grip of a very real crisis of faith. Whilst there are many who would profess to have some belief in God there are few who wish to express that faith in a church, during an act worship. What does this mean? There must be those who believe in the existence of a God but have no desire to worship God. This is seen clearly on the few occasions when people do call upon the church; at weddings and funerals. It is not uncommon to see people standing during hymns and not even bothering to open the hymn book. Facial expressions seem to indicate, disinterest, dislike, disapproval and on occasions even what looks like defiance. |
