Girls' Brigade

What is Girls' Brigade? It is a church based uniformed organisation for girls from Primary 1 to S6. The aim of the Girls' Brigade, bring a Christiam organisation, international and interdenominational, is to encourage girls to become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and through self control, reverence and a sense of responsibility find true enrichment of life.

In 1993 the Girls' Brigade celebrated its centenary and the 5th Saltcoats Company has been attached to St Cuthbert's Church for over 80 years. The company is split into three sections: Explorers (P1 - P3), Juniors(P4 - P7) and Brigaders (S1 - S6) and meets every Tuesday evening in the church hall from 6pm.

During the session, which runs from August to the end of May, the girls learn four different subjects taken from our programme books - Spiritual, Physical, Educational and Service. At the end of the session, the girls are presented with their awards at our Annual Display in front of parents and friends.

The girls also learn different crafts and games, go on outings and take part in competitions and swimming galas with other Girls' Brigade members throughout North Ayrshire and Scotland.

5th Saltcoats Company actively encourages girls in the Brigader section to participate in the Queen'a Award, which is the highest award achievable in the Girls' Brigade. The company also takes part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Above all, the emphasis is on FUN & ENJOYMENT for all, so why not give it a try and come along on Tuesdays and see for yourself.
