Dear Friends, The Manse April 2009 I want to think about both Easter and Pentecost after reconsidering Christmas. The modern church seems to be bogged down at Christmas. It has been all but impossible for us to escape the sheer commercialism of the advent season. The social and family pressures upon parents especially, to come up with an expensive and stressful Christmas, are massive. It is a time for the children, we are always told, but at what cost?

The African Children’s Choir is coming to perform in the church on Saturday 20th June I know that many people have heard of the choir and some of us heard the choir when they visited Barony St John some years ago. Everyone who has heard them is enthusiastic about their visit and looking forward to hearing them again. We are very excited to welcome them to St Cuthberts. |

Blythswood Care are appealing to all who support them. In these harsh economic days their food distribution in Scotland is not keeping up with demand. Can we help? Thank you for continuing to support Blythswood’s Round Scotland lorry at your local stop.Over the next two months we are appealing for donations of food to the lorry. The Highland Food Bank run by Blythswood Care is handing food out faster than it is coming in. Due to the credit crunch, many more clients are coming to the Food Bank needing a three day box of food. |
